Cultural Access Initiatives
"Cultural access is about community
in the largest sense. When people with and without disabilities have a
chance to participate in the arts together, we all benefit."

AccME! Accessible Maine!
Accessible Maine! is a collaborative initiative where VSA arts of Maine
partners with Alpha One, the
MS Society, and
Husson College to increase
awareness of accessibility issues in Maine cultural facilities.
Occupational therapy students from Husson College conduct
cultural site surveys at around the state providing the sites with
reports containing information and suggestions for making their
facilities more accessible to all visitors.
The reports, with site approval, are posted on
Access Expressed
NEW! Self Assessment Survey for
Accessibility now available for download!
This survey was developed as a learning tool for use in providing an
overall picture of accessibility regarding your facility. Submitting
the completed report for inclusion in our database will give potential
visitors information about what to expect before they arrive and will
promote facilities that embrace the concept of access for all.
(presented in Word Doc Format)
Reports summarizing the results will be posted on the Accessible
Recreation, Arts and Leisure guide at www.maine.gov/visiting/accessrec,
which promotes accessible facilities and programs in Maine.
A limited number of free copies of the New England
Access Expressed Directory are still available at VSA arts of Maine.
Visit, call, or send an email to get your copy.

"We discover we are 'the same' when
we laugh together, shed a tear together, are uplifted or moved in the
same ways. Bring up the curtain, let the play begin."
